The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts appointed Christopher Newbery as general manager of The Leela Kempinski Mumbai. A seasoned hotelier with more than two decades of international experience with leading luxury hospitality brands, Newbery returns to The Leela in Mumbai where he directed the hotel’s operations from 1995 to 1997. Newbery has held senior executive positions at Intercontinental Hotels, Kempinski and Hilton. In China from 1997 to 2004, he served with Intercontinental as general manager of their Crowne Plaza properties in Jinan and Beijing and was also general manager at the Kempinski Beijing Lufthansa Center. He was general manager at the Disneyland Paris and Euro Disney from 1991 to 1995. Prior to that, he was general manager at the Yaounde Hilton in Cameroon and the Madagascar Hilton. He also worked for the London Hilton on Park Lane and the Paris Hilton. Most recently, from 2005 to 2008, he was general manager and head of operations at the Serena Hotel in Kabul.
